CAY postdoctoral fellow joins UMMC faculty

Dr. Courtney S. Walker, recently a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Advancement of Youth, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.

After receiving her B.S. in psychology magna cum laude from Mississippi State University in 2012, Walker earned her M.S. in clinical psychology from MSU in 2014 and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from MSU in 2018. She completed a child/adult track internship at the LSU Health Sciences Center in June 2018 and a postdoctoral fellowship in child health and development promotion at UMMC in July 2019.

The author or coauthor of nine articles in peer-reviewed publications and two book chapters, Walker has given more than 15 presentations at scientific conferences nationally and five invited presentations in Mississippi and Louisiana. She has served as an ad hoc reviewer for the journals Emerging Adulthood, Developmental Neuropsychology, the Journal of Family Psychology and Educational Psychology.

She was recently granted a National Institutes of Health Loan Repayment Program award that is funded through the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

An active member of the Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and the Association for Psychological Science, Walker’s research interests include better understanding the risk and protective factors that influence child developmental and behavioral health.
